Wonders of the world: RENOLIT trend service inspires and fascinates with Colour Road 24/25

The theme of this year's Colour Road, “Treasures of our planet - treat them like a gift”, reminds us of how diverse our world's treasures are - and how fleeting they are.

Worms, 16 May 2024 - Our planet: a small blue marble in space, full of wonders big and small. The RENOLIT Group, the world's leading specialist in high-quality films, sheets and other polymer products, is drawing attention to these very special treasures with its Colour Road Trend Report 24/25. Under the motto “Treasures of our planet - treat them like a gift”, the company not only picks up on the zeitgeist of sustainability, but also fulfils the claim to be a mentor and trendsetter that the Colour Road Trend Service represents. The new trend colours for the Interior Surfaces market unit are divided into three inspiring colour palettes: Each palette tells its own story, inextricably linked to the next, opening up new worlds and drawing attention to what really counts: not the treasures themselves, but the way they are used. It is an emotional journey, because colours have always expressed attitudes and emotions.

A sense of colour with vision

Since 2009, RENOLIT's Corporate Design Management has been providing manufacturers of furniture, flooring, doors, wall coverings and caravans with an inspiring guide to the colours and designs that will be in the spotlight with its annual trend report. The Colour Road team picks up on socio-cultural trends and tendencies and transfers them to the field of interior and exterior design. The team's experts see themselves not only as consultants, but also as mentors: With a special flair for aesthetics and colour trends, they make an important contribution to successful product development and marketing concepts that give our RENOLIT customers a competitive edge. As well as drawing on its own expertise, the team works closely with an international network of trend research institutes and colour experts.

"Companies looking for trendy colours or decors come to us. The core of our advice is the personal - or digital - consultation," says Verena Mundle, Senior Design Manager, describing the service. "In addition to the consultation, films, mood boards, colour cards and a digital brochure take our customers on a journey.

The colours themselves come from visually powerful imagery, opening up worlds that inspire product designers and marketing professionals. "It is very important for us to inspire our customers and to excite them with new ideas. We want to encourage them to be creative and bold in their product development, so that they can offer successful designs in the market," says Monika Haag, Head of Corporate Design Management.

The facets of the earth give a sense of stability and warmth

The first part of this year’s Colour Road journey takes us deep into the core of our planet. "Precious Minerals” is the first trend theme to reveal the importance of these mineral resources: important minerals, rare earths and special elements that find their way into our everyday lives in so many ways, enriching them in ever more surprising and unexpected ways.

"Rare Earth, a soft, warm brown with a high proportion of black pigments, symbolises the rare earths hidden deep within the earth. The intense "Heat" - a pure red with no tendency towards yellow or blue - symbolises lava and the energy that comes from this glowing power from the depths of the earth. "Ceramic Red Premier Matt” takes us back to the beginnings of architecture: a rich mineral red with a medium chroma, inspired by clay and brick. "Treasure", a new low chroma colour, is inspired by a particularly precious and hard to find metal: Gold. It has always been considered the element of gods, emperors and kings, symbolising elegance, wealth and timelessness.

"In our contemporary interior design, we see a clear trend towards reduced, cubic forms," explains Monika Haag. "Island solutions and monolithic kitchen blocks emphasise minimalist design approaches and reinforce our desire for simplicity in a complex world. The wood finishes range from light pine to dark oak. Their authentic colours and textures lend a timeless, natural elegance to living spaces. The interior is complemented by dark textile designs that give rooms a modern feel.”

The colours of the landscapes are inspiring and soothing

The landscapes of our world are not only a source of inspiration, but also a precious heritage to be protected and preserved. The trend theme "Unique Landscapes” recognises them not only as breathtaking aesthetic experiences, but also as home to diverse forms of life.

"Smoke Green Premier Matt" is inspired by vast, mysterious moorlands and has a naturally misty, subdued effect thanks to its extremely low chroma. "Wave Blue Classic” is dedicated to the infinite vastness of the oceans: the shade is as adaptable as water itself and appears unusually warm for a blue due to its high red content. The soft "Desert" colour represents the hot, dry sands of the desert and is a reminder of the adaptability and resilience of its flora and fauna. "Toffee Premier Matt Protected" takes us to the rugged mountain ranges of the North American prairie, the setting for countless adventures and myths. A perfect balance between orange and brown, the colour exudes warmth and comfort despite its rugged source of inspiration.

"Our new mid-tones give living spaces an inviting, feel-good atmosphere," says Verena Mundle. "Inspired by the landscapes around us, they radiate authenticity. Because these shades are not dominant, they can be used on large surfaces and in a wide range of interior applications, as well as in shops and commercial buildings. They work well with light, natural oak decors to create an intriguing combination of warmth and restraint. Combining them with other surface textures, they create tactile experiences that appeal to the senses.”

The palette of the sky is inspiring and fascinating

Humankind has always been fascinated by observing clouds and studying the winds. The trend theme "Limitless Atmosphere" is a tribute to the special relationship we have with the air and weather, reminding us that the sky above us is in a constant state of flux, with inherent beauty and unpredictability.

The warm, timeless beige of "Nova Light Cashmere Classic" symbolises the quiet beauty of dawn, gently inviting us to pause and find our inner balance. Sometimes all it takes is a deep breath - a fact that "Airy Blue" makes tangible to the senses. A light blue with a tinge of red, it is cosy and soothing. "Brushed Aluminium Premier" symbolises impressive cloud formations and has an unusual depth thanks to its high black content. "Purple Horizon" is a warm purple with low chroma and a high black content, inspired by thunderstorms and the energy they release into the atmosphere.

"Colours like these unfold their very special magic in a predominantly light living environment," says Clarissa Blüm, Corporate Design Management Specialist. "Their sophisticated elegance gives the room a unique aura. They break up the clear, light design language and create exciting accents that bring the interior to life. The trendy colours, some of which are very cool, are complemented by warm oak and walnut finishes. This combination of contrasts gives the rooms a modern flair.”
